The Clinic for Ruminants at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland, is seeking applications for a dedicated and skilled full-time or part-time Clinical Instructor in Farm Animal Surgery.
About Us
Join our expert team of 6 Diplomates (ECVS, ECBHM, ACVIM, ECAR), 6-8 residents, and a dynamic group of veterinary technicians. Our caseload, approximately 900 patients annually, is referral-based only, with 90% cattle and 10% small ruminants and camelids. We are located in a state-of-the-art facility that provides a stimulating environment and numerous opportunities for research collaborations.
Responsibilities
- Clinical service: 50-60%, participation in after-hours emergency services
- Teaching: 20-30%, clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students and residents including lectures and practical courses
- Research: 10-20%, topics within the scope of the clinic’s research foci (including animal welfare, claw health, reduction of antimicrobial use, digestive diseases, calf health and udder health) preferred but not mandatory
Qualifications
- Veterinary diploma
- Board certification or eligibility in large animal surgery (ECVS or ACVS) with residency completion by starting date
- Doctorate title (Dr. med. vet., MS, PhD, or equivalent academic qualification), and publications in the field of farm animal surgery according to academic experience
- Basic knowledge of German and/or French, and willingness to acquire sufficient proficiency in at least one language to communicate with students, staff and clients
